Cell Phone/Electronic Device Policy
It is the policy of the Compton Unified School District (CUSD) to prohibit the use of cellular phone any electronic signaling device by students on campus during normal school hours or school activities.
General Guidelines:
- Students are permitted to possess cellular phones or electronic signaling devices on campus provided that any such device shall remain "off" and stored in a locker, backpack, purse, pocket or other place where it is not visible during normal school hours, or school activities.
- Students are permitted to use cellular phones or electronic signaling devices on campus before and after school.
- Students must comply anytime a request is made by school personnel to cease the use of a cellular phone or other electronic signaling device even before or after school.
- If such a device is observed by staff, during school hours or activities, it shall be confiscated until redeemed by a parent or guardian. See CUSD Cell Phone Policy.
- CD Players, iPods, video games and any electronic devices not being used for instructional purposes are prohibited on campus during school hours.
- Students and parents are to be advised of this prohibition annually, and are also to be advised that the District is not responsible for student' lost or stolen cell phones, CD Players, Gaming devices, iPods, iPads, Tablets, electronic games and any electronic devices.
- CEC school hours are from 7:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Students are not to use their cell phones during these school hours and are subject to having the phone confiscated.
- If students need to contact their parents or guardians, it should be done via the school’s main office and not from a personal electronic device.
