CELEBRITY SUBSTITUTE AT CEC
Ms. Hwang, our Studio Art teacher, collaborated with Celebrity Substitute. She taught a lesson on scale and proportion. Crystal M. (Class of 2021) was surprised to see her teacher joined by Terry Crews. Mr. Crews also collaborated with Ms. Hwang on a lesson about perspective.
Compton Early College has earned the College Board AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science Principles. Schools honored with the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award have expanded young women’s access to AP computer science courses.
Out of the 20,000 institutions that offer AP courses, 818 achieved this important result during the 2018-2019 school year. In 2019, CEC was one of 639 recognized in the category of AP Computer Science Principles.
Schools receiving the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award have achieved either 50% or higher female representation in either or both of the AP computer science courses, or the percentage of female computer science examinees meets or exceeds that of the school’s female population.

COMPUTER SCIENCE CHALLENGE WINNERS
We are proud of the 2020 Challenge winners! As part of the CUSD Computer Science Week, CEC middle and high school students competed against teams across the District. Phoenix students finished in the top three places for the Apple App Challenge and captured first place in the Minecraft Challenge. Congratulations Noemi, Esmeralda, Hailey, and Rebecca!
CEC RECOGNIZED BY WHEN WE ALL VOTE AND MTV 2020 PROM CHALLENGE
The 2020 Prom Challenge was a grant competition sponsored by When We All Vote, a national non-profit focused on increasing election turnout launched in 2018 by co-chairs including Michelle Obama, and MTV. 20 high schools from across the country will be recognized for their commitment to boosting voter registration in their communities. The work by CEC’s Girls Build LA club to pre-register our eligible student body will be highlighted at MTV’s Prom-athon which begins at 6:00pm Friday, May 22.
MATH FIELD DAY WINNERS
